Here are my top games I’ve played this year. I only have 8 because I couldn’t think of 10 as definite games I’ve played in 2024.
8. Reka – Early Access
This game’s still in early access with plans to release the full game next year. But it was so much fun to play and really gave in to the witchy cozy base-builder game. There are quite a few bugs, the best one being the trouser butt-crack glitch that kept happening until I changed my character’s outfit. But the first chapter of the story is great fun, it has a good level of exploration but maybe too many bits of furniture to collect so far.
7. Lakeburg Legacies
Another little cozy management sim, but the art style is beautiful and the save settings are very customisable. There is a match-making minigame but I did find myself looking for specific people to fill jobs rather than find “perfect matches”. But my current save is going very well whereas the first time I played my townsfolk kept starving to death.
6. This is the Police
I have not finished this game, I need to give it a loooooooooong break before I get back to the end section. I feel I was unjustly terminated. But I was super invested in the story and what is happening in this Freeburg City. The game is a GRIND however, each day is pretty much exactly the same until you get to a story sequence but the music is pretty cool.
5. Sims 4 Life and Death Exp. Pack
The sims kinda ate with this pack. There’s so much stuff to do, explore, discover and it’s super spooky with such a beautiful new world. I’m also so glad they’ve started asking people who build on YouTube to create their base lots because they’re so much better than they have been in the past.
4. Project Zomboid
I know this game isn’t brand new. But it’s brand new to me. And I loved it. I’d been playing it in coop mode and have been liking it so far, I haven’t gotten too far into the general gameplay but I have fought a lot of zombies, including myself (because I already died within the first 5 mins of starting a save file). I think it’s much easier playing with someone who already knows how the game works but I imagine there’s so much to explore.
3. A Way Out
Really cool and super fun co-op, almost cinematic, game. I liked that you get two different dialogue options per character, and (spoiler) pitting them against each other at the end just felt so horrible but really fitting. We really liked both characters and the game felt so fully fleshed out.
2. It Takes Two
The younger sibling to A Way Out but you really see how the developers created a completely different experience but also a better one? I loved getting new powers, going through the different worlds, exploring the minigames, seeing little easter eggs. The only thing I didn’t like and that felt slightly jarring were the personalities of the two characters, obviously they dislike each other but I was playing with someone I liked so it felt quite strange. But it was really good fun to play through it all.

1. Dishonored
Probably the only one on this list I have a link to. But I could not get enough of this game! Again I know it’s not a new game but I played it in 2024 and not before. I wish there was more of the story (I’m well aware there’s a second game which I defo will play) as I got so attached to all of the characters and being sneaky which I found so fun! And I always love an action-reaction vibe where everything has a consequence.
Tell me what your favourite games you’ve played so far are!
