An amazing game. I hadn’t played it until this year, but I had previously watched a playthrough around the time the game came out, luckily for me I had forgotten the vast majority even if I remembered the general storyline of the game. I personally don’t feel like that had a massive impact on my enjoyment.

Corvo is such a fun character to play as, sneaking around, upgrading all of my powers, stealing everything was right up my alley.

I got so attached to all of the characters, especially lovely Samuel the boatman and even Sokolov and

Piero, who I thought was a bit bland at the beginning, was really great towards the end.

As I believe I’ve mentioned many times, I love a good multiple ending game where your actions have consequences and I did go for a low chaos/good ending so I’ll definitely do a high chaos, kill everyone playthrough of it but I might have to leave it to sit with me for a bit. And I’ll play the second game before I replay the first anyway.

Spoilers coming, don’t read if you don’t want to know the ins and outs

I did not go for the completionist achievement by any means. I actually came out of every mission with about half of the amount of money you could possibly earn or less which I thought was quite funny but I probably should have explored around a little bit more.

The runes I did try to get as many as I possibly could have but I actually ended up with far too many after upgrading everything I wanted to. I ended up getting all of the stealth upgrades, so dark vision, possession and I think I did get the rat swarm one because I just had so many leftover runes by the end of the game. I wasn’t fussed about the bone charms however, I’m not sure how much of an impact they made but I wasn’t about to go out of my way to get them.

I did however try my absolute best to be as sneaky as possible and thought the options to take multiple routes in some of the areas was a nice touch, kind of giving you the choice. I preferred to go high rather than the sewers, mostly because I didn’t want to deal with weepers but also I liked having a little look of what was below me.

Despite the two options you had to complete every mission I didn’t feel that the non-lethal option to keep low chaos were always… nice? One of the early missions with the Pendleton brothers, the choice is either to kill them or complete Slackjaw’s mission. I did the latter (after poisoning Slackjaw’s elixir oopsies) and they end up being sent to their own mines with their tongues cut out which is pretty brutal and arguably worse than just killing them.

One of my favourite missions was the masked ball. Again the non-lethal option is not great and made me feel a bit icky. It was great fun to play and walk around chatting to all of these different people. So the point is to find Lady Boyle and get rid because she had a heavy hand in the conspiracy around killing the Empress. Turns out there are three Lady Boyles but you have to find the right one by talking to the other guests.

There is a sneaky upstairs area which I obviously had to explore around but I accidentally left evidence of my sleuthing in the form of an unconscious guard so I had to re-load my save there. But the setting was beautiful, the gossip was beautiful and it was nice to not have to sneak even if you did get some comments about your questionable costume.

So partway through, you get stopped by a man who recognises who you are and mentions that he loves Lady Boyle so much and if you deliver her then he will make sure she’s never seen again. Turns out he’s a stalker-type so you end up taking Lady Boyle, unconscious, to a man who she doesn’t really like to live out the rest of her life in isolation. That made me feel a bit weird.

Then… BETRAYAL! All of these loyalists you were tirelessly working for betray you, kidnap your child and now you have to go and get her. The lighthouse sequence was really fun to play I thought, it was very difficult but towards the end I was like “Fuck it, you get death” and still maintained my low-chaos baybee! So win for me really. I have heard that if you’re in high chaos, all of the dialogue is completely different, the setting changes and Samuel HATES Corvo so am looking forward to seeing what changed.

This game was right up my alley, just had a great time playing through it.
